“David has over 20 years of rail industry experience in the operation and maintenance of track maintenance machinery. He provides leadership across Brimble’s operations, helping drive the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of rail infrastructure projects throughout Australia.
A passionate advocate for the rail industry, David believes we must continually find ways to do things smarter, safer, and more efficiently as available track time becomes increasingly limited. He is committed to challenging the status quo, encouraging innovation, and working collaboratively across the industry to help shape what the future of rail in Australia looks like for generations to come.
David is equally passionate about developing people and building strong teams, fostering a culture of accountability, trust, and continuous improvement. He also believes rail has a significant role to play in creating a more energy-efficient transport future and is committed to supporting practical, sustainable outcomes across the industry.”

Evan Jones at Genesis Rail– I am an experienced Boilermaker coming from the maritime industry, starting in the railway industry in 2018 as a labourer, I have slowly made my way through the ranks as a team leader, project engineer across rail maintenance and construction projects and now worked into a Project Management role overseeing specialised track plant where I lead projects from planning through to delivery. With a trade background I have the ability to work alongside the Engineering department of Genesis Rail and Plant to fabricate innovative machinery and offer a hand-on leadership style with a strong ability to bridge site operations alongside project and commercial objectives
Paper Overview – In this presentation I will provide solutions to problems that our clients come across, the TRACS (Turnout remover and Carrier System is a safer, less hands-on, faster solution. This will show timings on traditional turnout removal and plain line reconstructions compared to the innovative method in its place saving principal contractors time on the back end of possessions. The TRACS is an innovative solution that changes how turnout panels are handled, designed for optimal performance and advances railway maintenance by combining remote safety features and efficient, adaptable panel handling.

Graham Penfold has worked on the Railway for 31yrs specialising in On Track machines and S&C. Particular focus over the last 10yrs has been optimising use of OTMs using technology such as Smart ALC, Curve Assisted Laser, Design Overlift, Dynamic Track Stablising, Spot / Sprinter tamping, Geometry tamping and S&C tamping.’
This paper outlines the optimisation of tamping in particular of switches and crossings. It will cover design / geometry tamping, parallel tamping of crossovers, tamping turnouts, heel block misalignments, non-tampable bearers and tamping Point Operating Equipment. Time permitting, I can expand into Dynamic Track Stabilisation or Design Overlift – whatever is the preference.

The original PWI Lunch and Learn sessions were launched in 2024, building a community for industry experts to share their knowledge on Rail Infrastructure Engineering and a great Continuous Professional Development(CPD) opportunity for all!
The topics can cover technical research, project delivery or novel technology; the first ever event covered the delivery of a major rail infrastructure project with the subsequent session on the technical intricacies of turnouts.
The key difference to other PWI chapter events is this event spans all states and wider, looking to connect like-minded professionals from different rail infrastructure managers for the benefit of the rail industry as a whole; with internationally delivered presentations also planned.
This is achieved by holding the events on line via Microsoft Teams, typically every 8 weeks.
