Sicut is the global market leader in the supply of composite railway sleepers and S&C bearers made from recycled polymers, with sleepers installed in more than 20 countries around the world. Sicut has manufacturing facilities in the UK and USA and has commenced the establishment of its new facility, near Bathurst NSW, supported by the Australian Government’s Recycling Modernisation Fund.
While Sicut sleepers are compliant with Australia’s AS 10855.22 standard they are also proven to the latest International (ISO), European and US standards.
In Europe, Sicut has been the sole supplier to the UK’s Network Rail and Germany’s Deutsche Bahn since 2020 (22.5 – 25MT) (>100,000 sleepers); and in the USA, Sicut sleepers [ties] have been supplied to all the US Class 1 heavy haul freight railroads (35MT), most in high tonnage (80-100 MGTPA) routes, as well as many transits (>100,000 sleepers).
Installation within urban metros networks around the world (12-18 MT) has also been extensive, with metros in the UK, Europe and USA regular and repeat customers.
To deliver technical solutions to its customers, Sicut works closely with the wider supply chain e.g. with fastening suppliers and S&C fabricators, to bring a new dimension and depth to the level of experience and knowledge it can bring to support the needs of railroads.
By manufacturing in Australia, Sicut will divert significant volumes of Australian plastic waste from landfill; enable railways to substitute less sustainable materials and enhance biodiversity; and deliver vital reductions in CO2e within the infrastructure. While the facility is commissioned, Sicut will hold inventory in Bathurst to ensure the benefits offered by Sicut sleepers remain available.
The PWI Lunch and Learn sessions were launched in 2024, building a community for industry experts to share their knowledge on Rail Infrastructure Engineering and a great Continuous Professional Development(CPD) opportunity for all!
The topics can cover technical research, project delivery or novel technology; the first ever event covered the delivery of a major rail infrastructure project with the subsequent session on the technical intricacies of turnouts.
The key difference to other PWI chapter events is this event spans all states and wider, looking to connect like-minded professionals from different rail infrastructure managers for the benefit of the rail industry as a whole; with internationally delivered presentations also planned.
This is achieved by holding the events on line via Microsoft Teams, typically every 8 weeks.
