Following on from the success of previous events the PWI-WA Committee will host be hosting another technical meeting. This is part of an exciting series of events that will focus on delivering technical presentations on issues relevant to the WA Rail Industry, and allow the attendees to meet and network with each other.

The event will see two interesting presentations:

  • Callan Goldman / Edger Mundarain from BHP will be presenting – Yeerabiddy Siding: Increasing Network Capacity; and
  • Nick O’Donnell from Sicut will be presenting – Successfully integrating composite sleepers, bearers and transoms into Australian rail networks.

 

Callan Goldman / Edger Mundarain from BHP will be presenting – Yeerabiddy Siding: Increasing Network Capacity.

Callan has over 17 years of experience leading multimillion-dollar projects, asset lifecycle planning, and large-scale renewals programs in government and private sectors. Expertise in ISO 55001-compliant asset management systems, program optimisation, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring safety, quality, and governance in complex environments. Proven track record in delivering innovative solutions that minimise operational impacts, reduce costs, and enhance performance in rail and mining infrastructure.
Callan is a Project Lead within the BHP Rail Renewals & Projects team delivering critical projects from inception to close-out across the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
Prior to the current placement with BHP, he worked at Calibre/WSP as Area Manager on the RTIO RNR Renewals; worked at V/Line as the Manager of Asset Lifecycle Planning with a 6-month secondment as GM Asset Management and Performance; and spent 10 years at BHP in roles from Graduate Track Engineer, Track Engineer, Project Engineer, Construction Manager, Project Manager and Superintendent Renewals.

Yeerabiddy Siding: Increasing Network Capacity

This presentation focuses on the various design and execution phases of the Yeerabiddy Siding Upgrade to increase productivity and reduce future maintenance.

Providing great insights from a track and civil perspective to enhance constructability, conformance to design standards and quality assurance.

 

Nick O’Donnell from Sicut will be presenting – Successfully integrating composite sleepers, bearers and transoms into Australian rail networks.

With over a decade of experience in the heavy haul rail industry, Nick brings deep sector expertise and a proven track record of delivering high-performance rail infrastructure solutions across Australia. 

Before joining Sicut, the global market leader of sustainable railway infrastructure, Nick led strategic sales and business development activities, supplying premium Japanese steel rail to major mining and freight rail operators.

Now as Vice President of Sales for Australia and New Zealand, Nick is driving the transition toward greener rail networks by championing the adoption of composite sleepers, bearers and transoms.

Drawing on a strong foundation in technical sales, stakeholder engagement, and supply chain optimisation, Nick is passionate about aligning commercial outcomes with engineering and sustainability goals.

Based in Sydney, Nick continues to work closely with public and private rail stakeholders to build safer, more durable, and sustainable railways for the future.

 

Successfully integrating composite sleepers, bearers and transoms into Australian rail networks

This presentation will focus on the technical requirements for Sicut’s sleepers/bearers made from recycled polymers, and go over many case studies from installs in more than 20 other countries around the world.

Sicut will be sharing their latest developments in alternative composite sleepers and bearers including the installations in Australia thus far.

Also, an exciting update on the commencement of Australian manufacture at their new facility in Bathurst NSW, supported by the Australian Government’s Recycling Modernisation Fund.

Networking will follow the presentation.
