Technical Meeting Sponsored By :

Sponsor presentation will be given by Henrik Vocks, Manager Technical Services, Rhomberg Sersa Australia

Henrik has over 20 years international experience in construction and commissioning of track works as Project and Construction Manager. He was involved in one of the largest transalpine railway tunnel projects in Europe – the Loetschberg base tunnel. Furthermore, he managed the final design and construction of 23km of mass-spring systems built for the Brenner Approach Tunnels. Henrik has gained experience in Australia, Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Venezuela. Joining Rhomberg Sersa Australia in October 2011, he has completed several complex track slab projects (e.g. Sydney Metro Northwest), crane rail installations and ballasted track works during possession for Sydney Trains and in the Hunter Valley region.

Tendering for track works including pricing, program, constructability for major projects like Sydney Metro City&Southwest and Western Sydney Airport, Cross River Rail, Forrestfield Airport Link and CRL Auckland for the track slab install works have been part of Henrik’s more recent activities. Henrik is heavily involved with the RSRG wide R&D initiatives for track slab systems and transparent & digital construction sites.

Automated In-Situ Track Slab Construction Technology

The boom of metro rail construction and the implementation of track slab technology has necessitated that new construction methodologies be developed. In Australia, our metro networks in cities typically operate in single track tunnels, and more recently on at-grade and viaduct track sections. To construct the track slab efficiently and safely in these environments, careful consideration needs to be given to access, concrete delivery logistics and construction methodology. Previously, track slab projects have typically been constructed in a very labour intensive and manual manner.

For Brisbane’s Cross River Rail (CRR) metro project, Rhomberg Sersa Australia successfully implemented bespoke machine technology, for Sydney Metro’s Western Sydney Airport project another bespoke machine technology for track slab on at-grade and viaduct sections is currently in manufacturing. This machine technology successfully replaced the previously used labour-intensive construction methods, greatly improving worker safety, efficiency of the construction and quality of output. The presentation will provide an in-depth overview of the machine technology that was developed, designed, and manufactured in Australia in Rhomberg Sersa Australia’s own facilities.
