Last Thursday evening, 12 February, Melvelle Equipment sponsored the City Technical Meeting. Andrew Melvelle, CEO Melvelle Engineering, introduced Russell Brown from Interflon Rail. Russell discussed MicPol Technology used in rail applications in UK and Australia, and how specialised lubricants solve complex friction challenges and extend the life of rail assets.
Our second presenter was George Davis, Director of Network Performance at Sydney Trains, who took us through the development, implementation and outcome of Sydney Trains’ Rail Repair Plan. This plan highlighted the criticality of Reliability / Systems Engineering for all Infrastructure in Sydney Trains. Leveraging asset & customer impact performance data to direct asset improvement. Additionally, forecast the expected performance improvement from these changes. This resulted in 35% reduction in Infrastructure Customer impacts in FY23/24 compared to FY22/23, which also includes a 21% growth in patronage. The Rail Repair Plan drove a 18% reduction in Infrastructure Customer impacting incidents in FY23/24 compared to FY22/23.
The night ended with a networking session over a few pizzas and drinks. A special thank you to WSP for providing the facilities.
